It’s Cuppa PLUS!!!!!!!!
We would all know Seniors in our community who are not getting out much, they might go to do shopping or to the Doctor or Chemist but other than that they usually stay at home. There are many reasons why Seniors in our community may not socialise much, these include hearing and sight loss or issues, lack of transport (especially in regional areas), fear of illness (especially since COVID arrived), they may not have family nearby and some of their friends may not be with us anymore.
This is particularly an issue for those Seniors who are single or have lost their partner. People are meant to mix with other people, we need to do it for our mental and physical wellbeing.
When Seniors and others in our community are not socialising, it has a major impact on their health and it can contribute to an increase in physical and mental issues.
So the Committee of Cuppa PLUS has formed this charity with a single focus to help reduce the social isolation in the community and especially for Seniors, across Logan and the Scenic Rim. We are doing this through a variety of activities and are always looking for Seniors to get involved.
All of the activities include the offer of a cup of tea or coffee (and usually a biscuit) and often we provide useful information we have come across about aged care, government services and providers in the area.
Rachelle is responsible for all our operations, which includes the planning and running of all of our activities and marketing. Julie looks after our finances and administration, and keeps Rachelle in check (which is probably her main job!!!).
Below we have just three examples of our activities. We are always looking for more Seniors to be involved, so if you are a Senior, please get in touch or if you know of a Senior who could benefit with getting involved, please go to the Contact page.
EMERGENCY RELIEF
Social isolation has many causes, one of these can be not having the funds to be able to go out and socialise. This has significant impacts socially but also mentally, and so we now have funding to help us provide assistance. Therefore, our first program is Emergency Relief. This program provides food and fuel vouchers to those in Jimboomba and Beaudesert and surrounds who are having difficulty in paying essential bills. As we only have limited funding, we want to provide support to as many as we can, so appointments are essential. We also have the contact details and information for other Emergency Relief and other services available in the area. Please email us at er.cuppaplus@gmail.com to make an appointment.
SENIORS EXPOS
To recognise Seniors Month and to get Seniors out and about, we will be running Seniors Expos in the Scenic Rim and Logan in October This will include; entertainment, workshops, information sessions, lucky door prizes, morning tea, and many providers available for a chat. Our plan is to have as much community involvement as possible with choirs and bands from the local area, as well food being available for purchase from local community groups or service clubs.
STAYING CONNECTED
This program is all about a weekly phone call between one of our friendly Volunteers and people who are not getting out much. If you know of anyone who might like a chat once a week by phone to see how they are and catch up with what they have been up to, please give us a call on 0494 383 643 or email us at cuppaplus@gmail.com., so they Stay Connected. Privacy will be fully protected as per our Privacy Policy.
